Three Things you Absolutely Should Not DIY for your Wedding... and a Couple that you Maybe Could

What to DIY and what not to DIY. It’s a common question we get that has a tricky answer. After all, we all have special skills and talents so who’s to say what you can or can’t do yourself?? But based on our experiences, regardless of skill, here’s what we recommend leaving to the pros!

planning and coordination

Hire a coordinator. Just do it. It doesn't even have to be us but you want someone's full-time attention to the details of your day. There are SO many things that can go wrong. Wouldn't you want someone who does this every week handling everything behind the scenes so you don't have to? Yeah, we thought so.

florals

Even if you are great at floral design, this is not a project you want to take on. Unlike many DIY projects, florals are live plants. Meaning, you can't purchase months out and work on them a little day by day. That alone is a huge reason why we say, leave it to the pros and keep your wedding week stress free! You will appreciate it after the fact!

hair and makeup

Same as florals, you may have a total knack for makeup but on your wedding day, it’s an opportunity to get pampered by someone else so you can sip champagne and chat with your bridal party. It's a whirlwind once you walk down the aisle and your time spent with them might be limited after this. Also, makeup artists are trained to make you look beautiful in your photos. No one knows your face better than you but there are some different techniques that help you to not look washed out in your photos.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DIY

Now for a few things you could probably DIY: Favors, paper products, and guest books. Here’s the general rule: anything you can do ahead of time that is fairly simple could be a good DIY. Anything that is going to distract you or your family and friends on the day of, or a few days before your wedding is best to leave to the pros!
